Cost Accountant

Experience Required: 3-5 Years
Education Required: Bachelor's Degree

GENERAL SUMMARY

Is responsible for the cost accounting and general accounting related to inventory and cost of goods sold. Allocates costs, collects data, and prepares reports that maintain the company’s cost accounting system. Ensures that costs are allocated according to established accounting procedures. Reviews and analyzes purchase price, labor, and overhead variances and provides recommendations to management regarding standard cost estimates. Investigates cost structures for new and existing areas of the company.  May recommend, design, or develop revisions to the cost accounting system.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Developing inventory analysis reports and analyzing variances
• Assisting in the improvement in internal controls related to inventory
• Verifying accurate standard costs
• Monitoring inventory transactions
• Reconciling inventory accounts to the general ledger
• Guiding cost analysis process by providing trends and forecasts, explaining processes and techniques, and  recommending actions
• Participates in the month-end close, including preparation of required journal entries, account reconciliations, and schedules
• Prepares and reviews various daily operating metrics to monitor business performance
• Analyzes and reviews bills of material to ensure accurate product costing
• Prepares actual versus budget analysis, manufacturing profit, variance analysis, and actual to standard cost comparisons
• Performs product line profitability analysis
• Proposes improvements in Operations and Working Capital
• Is the finance lead in helping to organize and manage the annual physical inventory and manages the cycle counting process as appropriate
• Participates in preparation of annual budget and forecast
• Special projects as required

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Required:

• A minimum of four years experience as a Cost Accountant
• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting required
• An understanding of GAAP in relation to cost accounting
• Is flexible and able to work as part of a team
• Proficient in MS Excel

Preferred:

• SAP FI/CO Experience
